Six Reasons Why You Need To Stop Smoking
People who smoke probably know the damage it does to their health. It can start a leisure activity, but over time, it becomes additive such that you cannot do without it and you become vulnerable to chronic diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, and stroke. If you have been a smoker for a considerable period then at least you know some of its effects such as shortness of breath, dry skin, and thinning hair.
Smoking is an addictive habit thus most smokers are not ready to quit it as much as they are aware that it is dangerous to their health. Everyone knows the health effects of smoking, but a majority of people have not found a reason to stop the smoking habit and below are some of them.
Save money – Smoking is expensive. The government is trying to discourage smoking by imposing high taxes which translate to high prices of cigarette packets. If you make continuous purchases, you will be broke after a short period. When you quit smoking, you will save lots of money that you can spend on other necessary activities to improve your standard of living.
Stop endangering others – When you are smoking, it also affects other people around you. People around you are likely to inhale the smoke which contains numerous toxic chemicals such as carcinogens. Vaping is an alternative to safer smoking as it does not have toxic chemical compounds.
Normalize your senses – Most smokers do not have properly functioning senses of smell and taste. Smoking affects your senses of smell which is also directly related to your taste sensation and after a short while, you may lose both senses. However, this is not a permanent situation because if you quit smoking, you can start nicotine replacement therapy to stabilize your senses.
Avoid premature aging – Smoking changes one’s appearance and even a young might look old. Smoking affects the skin tissues thus it is easy to develop wrinkles, dry skin, and leathery skin. Smoking fastens the aging process and makes young smokers appear as if they are way over their ages.
Prevent frequent coughs and colds – It is a normal thing to have occasional colds and coughs, but smokers will have them at a high rate. Smoking weakens the body’s immune system, and this makes a smoker’s body highly susceptible to bacterial and viral infections which are responsible for colds and coughs. However, when you quit smoking your body will regain its immune strength within a short period.
Stamina to exercise – Smokers cannot endure long periods of exercises because they easily run short of breath. Smoking weakens the functioning of the lungs and heart which are vital organs for optimal body functioning. In extreme cases, smokers may not have adequate strength to climb a couple of stairs. However, there is hope that when you quit, your body functioning becomes normal once again.
